Residential, Historic Preservation | Miami, FL
The design of this home builds upon a 1940 ranch residence in the Morningside Historic District,
reworking its original footprint through a careful renovation and a 1,500-square-foot two-story
addition. The approach is rooted in preserving the scale and character of the existing structure
while introducing a more contemporary spatial organization that supports evolving patterns of living.
New volumes are positioned to complement rather than compete, allowing the original home to remain
legible within a cohesive and expanded composition.
The addition establishes a clear hierarchy between public and private spaces, opening the ground level to light, landscape, and a sequence of outdoor living areas. Interior spaces extend toward the pool and garden, where planting and water become integral to the daily experience of the home. Material continuity and restrained detailing tie new and existing elements together, while subtle shifts in massing articulate the evolution of the structure over time. The result is a residence that honors its past while embracing a more open, connected, and contemporary way of living.
