Residential, Historic Preservation | Miami Beach, FL
The design of this home builds upon a 1930s Streamline Moderne residence in South Beach by
L. Murray Dixon, approaching the project as a careful balance between preservation and evolution.
The existing architecture serves as the foundation, with its defining horizontal lines, curved forms,
and restrained detailing maintained and restored. Interventions are intentionally measured, allowing the
original character to remain legible while introducing new layers that support contemporary patterns of living.
Strategic additions are conceived to align with the language
of the historic structure without resorting to imitation, using proportion, scale, and material continuity to establish a cohesive dialogue between old and new. Interior spaces are reconfigured to enhance flow, light, and connection to the surrounding landscape, while exterior interventions remain secondary to the primary composition. The result is a residence that honors its architectural legacy while quietly adapting to present-day life, bridging past and present with clarity and restraint.
